1. On January 6, Vornado Realty Trust provided USUN/HC with
a copy of a check it received from the DRC Mission to the UN
(DRCMUN) for $100,000. The check, dated January 5, was
partial payment for outstanding arrears owed by the DRCMUN
for its office space at 866 UN Plaza, Suite 511, New York,
NY. As reported in reftels, the DRCMUN did not make a
single rental payment in 2009. Vornado expressed its
gratitude for USUN, Department and Embassy efforts thus far.
While the payment was welcomed, a significant debt of $53K
remains outstanding and monthly rent of over $10K is due by
the first of each month. Per previous demarche talking
points, the DRC must still clear this outstanding balance and
fund its current UN Mission adequately or adjust staffing
levels and accommodations to what it can afford.
