(U) Acting DCM delivered reftel demarche to the director of
the Americas Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Otar Berdzenishvili, on January 14. A/DCM emphasized the
importance of the Copenhagen Accord as a critical step
towards tackling climate change and encouraged Georgia to
associate itself with the accord by sending a message to the
UNFCCC. Berdzenishvili agreed with our assessment of the
importance of Copenhagen and assured us of that Georgia would
seriously consider our request to send the necessary message
to UNFCCC. Post will inform the Department of further
developments on this issue.
