Pol Counselor delivered reftel points to Amb. Klas Molin,
Director General for Asian Affairs at the Swedish MFA, on
January 19. Molin said he fully understood the focus on a
conditions-based approach and that Sweden would make plans
for its ongoing participation in ISAF based on conditions
that prevail in the four provinces of its PRT (note: the
Swedes have 500 troops operating in Jowzjan, Sar-e Pul, Balkh
and Samangan Provinces). Sweden has had, and plans to have,
a long-term presence in Afghanistan, he added; the Swedish
Afghanistan Committee has been running education and health
care projects in the country since the 1970s. Molin agreed
that ISAF members need to maintain a unified message on these
points.
