DONOR TO QUAKE-HIT HAITI
REF: STOCKHOLM 17
Sweden's support for the emergency situation in Haiti now
totals $25.6 million, making it the third largest donor after
the U.S. and Canada to the quake-hit country. Minister for
International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson
announced on January 18 that Sweden would also make immediate
payment of its entire annual contribution for 2010, totaling
$60.6 million to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund
(CERF) to provide immediate financing for urgent humanitarian
operations.
2. Sweden is the second largest donor to CERF (Reftel),
accounting for nearly 15 percent of donor funding. Carlsson
said that Sweden has also responded to a World Food Program
appeal by contributing nearly $3 million to the
organization's efforts in Haiti.
3. Post will continue to monitor Swedish emergency assistance
to Haiti.
