1. Working withing the UN system, Sweden contributed $60.3
million to the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF),making
it the second largest contributor to the fund in 2009.
Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Haiti Desk Officer
Sara Rameriez told Post on January 15 that Sweden has also
offered the following assistance to Haiti:

- $850,000 to the United Nations Office of Humanitarian
Affairs (OCHA) Fund to be channeled through the Swedish
International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)
consisting of tents, water purification equipment and medical
aid,

- $ 2.8 million channeled through the Swedish Civil
Contingency Agency for additional assistance, much of which
may be needed to set up base camps for rescue personnel, and

- $65,000 and two technicians to support IT and
communications.


2. Swedish development Minister Gunilla Carlsson said that
Sweden SIDA will continue to study the need for additional
contributions. The Swedish branch of the Red Cross has also
teamed up with a Swedish newspaper in a drive for donations
to assist victims of the earthquake.


3. Post will continue to monitor Swedish emergency assistance
to Haiti.
