SUBJECT: RESPONSE TO THE WORKING GROUP ON COMMUNICATIONS
G/SO 215/USA 67 - GENEVA LOG NUMBER 71-2009

1. Mission is requested to convey to the Working Group on
Communications a response to their communication G/SO 215/1
USA 67 regarding the Cuban Five Case. The text of the
response will be e-mailed to post. This is item number 71 on
the 2009 Geneva Correspondence Log.

2. In their letter dated October 31, 2008, the Working Group
on Communications forwarded a complaint from Cuban relatives
of four individuals convicted in the United States on charges
based on the individuals' clandestine service on behalf of
the Cuban Directorate of Intelligence. The relatives allege
that they have been unable to visit their incarcerated family
members as frequently or easily as they wish, because of
difficulties in obtaining a visa and accomplishing visits
within the
timeframe permitted by the visas which they have received.
The United States had provided a response on August 19, 2009,
however the Working Group decided to keep the case under
review until its next session in April of 2010 and forwarded
a request for supplemental information.

3. Department appreciates Mission's assistance.
CLINTON
