Per Reftel, EconChief spoke with Carol Franco, an advisor at the
Dominican Republic's Consejo Nacional para el Cambio Climatico
(National Council on Climate Change). When asked about the DR
associating with the Copenhagen Accord, she stressed that the Vice
President was personally engaged on the issue but that no decision
would be taken until after a climate change conference occurring
February 2-3. The event is being hosted by President Leonel
Fernandez' think tank, FUNGLODE, and will focus on the outcomes of
Copenhagen and the road to the COP-16 in Mexico.) We understand
she conveyed a similar message to Special Envoy Pershing during
their meeting in Washington earlier this month. EconChief will
attend the event and encourage participants to press for
association as soon as possible.
