1. (U) Summary. In a response to U.S. reftel, the GOI has
informed post that it will build a Physical Rehabilitation
Facility in Haiti. End summary.
2. (U) On January 26 ECONOFF met with Agostino Miozzo,
General Director of the International Relations Office of the
Italian Civil Protection Department and delivered the reftel
demarche on U.S. Humanitarian Assistance. Miozzo had just
returned from an assessment visit to Haiti.
3. (U) Miozzo stated that Italy has committed to build a
physical rehabilitation facility that will also specialize in
the production of prosthetic limbs. He gave no time frame for
the construction of this facility, but said that the GOI has
given this commitment to the Government of Haiti.
