Embassy Praia's PD team met to discuss the local implications of
Secretary Clinton's January 21 speech regarding internet
freedom, per ref message. Cape Verde is a stable democracy and
the government fully supports free access to the internet and
other communication media. As a result, Post decided the best
approach would be to upload the Secretary's speech onto Embassy
Praia's website in Portuguese to reaffirm our support for
freedom of speech in general and internet freedom specifically.
We will continue to promote these issues in our Mission's
strategic engagement on democracy in Cape Verde.
