TERRORISM: U.S. POLICY
--------------

1. "FAILURES OF U.S INTELLIGENCE AND ANXIETY OF
PRESIDENT OBAMA," op-ed in January 10 right-of-center
Urdu daily HINDUSTAN EXPRESS: "President Obama has come
down hard on U.S secret agencies for their intelligence
failure on the failed Christmas bombing attempt. The
real question, however, is why are terrorists being
created within the U.S intelligence agencies
themselves? It is said that a turncoat CIA agent
carried out a suicide bombing at a CIA camp in
Afghanistan in recent past in which 8 CIA agents were
killed. Prior to this, an U.S ARMY Doctor Major Hasan
also killed his 13 colleagues at Fort Hood."

2. "WAR DOES NOT BRING DEMOCRACY," op-ed in January 8
Hindi daily, RASHTRIYA SAHARA: "U.S. President Barack
Obama recently said that the U.S. struggle against
violent terrorism will not be limited to Afghanistan
and Pakistan. Immediately after that, the U.S. launched
attacks on alleged Al-Qaida bases in Yemen following
the failed attempt to blow up a Christmas Day U.S.
flight. Saudi Arabia and Egypt have also become a part
of it. Besides Iran, Algeria, Sudan, Syria and Somalia
are also on the U.S. hitlist. Result: anti-U.S.
sentiments are again on the rise. The U.S. mission of
democracy and freedom is becoming dependent on
tyrannical ruling systems in thirst for power."

3. "IMPERIALISTIC GAME IN YEMEN," editorial in January
10 right-of-center Urdu daily URDU TIMES: "America's
imperialistic game in Yemen is not different from that
being played in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since Yemen lies
in the vicinity of Saudi Arabia, the imperialist forces
are busy in increasing their military presence around
the two holy mosques, so that Zionist and Christian
siege may be laid down around the spiritual centers of
Muslims. The so-called superpower America is bound to
extend its sphere of influence in order to control the
entire resources of the world. If the Muslim community
keeps following the dictates of America, it may face
grave consequences in the future."

INDO-PAK RELATIONS
--------------

4. "PAKISTAN'S HIGH DRAMA," editorial in January 11
centrist Marathi daily, SAKAAL: "To hold India
responsible for the mayhem in Karachi is Pakistan's
mistake and a clever ploy. Pakistan's administration,
military and political leadership keep themselves far
from introspection and improvement. They have the nerve
to pin blame on India for terrorist attacks on their

NEW DELHI 00000034 002.3 OF 002

soil. Could this be another way of instigating India?"

5. "WEAKNESS ON KASHMIR," editorial in January 9 right-
of-center Hindi daily, DAINIK JAGRAN: "Last week's
terror attack in Indian Kashmir's capital Srinagar
should be an eye opener for India. It shows that terror
was not quite dead, as was being projected. It cannot
be a coincidence that on the one hand there is an
increase in terrorist activities in Kashmir and on the
other hand Pakistan's President says that Kashmir's
freedom is a Pakistani priority. India's defensive
attitude sends a wrong message to the international
community that India is a hurdle in resolving the
Kashmir issue."
