On January 29, Economic Counselor delivered demarche on distracted
driving (Ref A) to MFA America's Deputy Director Nyambura Kamau.
This demarche followed on the January 25 diplomatic note sent to
the MFA as well as the Kenyan Ministry of Transportation. Ms.
Kamau, recently back from a stint at the Kenyan Consulate in Los
Angeles, understood the issue completely and complained of the
problem in Kenya. Ms. Kamau was not aware of the specific laws on
the books in Kenya at present. We are seeking responses to the
questions in the demarche via Ms. Kamau and the Ministry of
Transportation.
