(SBU) The Government of Oman is preparing to send aid to Haiti in
response to the Haiti earthquake and the resulting human tragedy.
Ali al Ra'isi, CEO of the Oman Charitable Organization (OCO)
informed Embassy on January 17 that while the amount is yet
undetermined, he is awaiting a government decision and is preparing
for a cash donation to the Red Cross for the purchase of medicine,
tents, and other relief supplies. (Note: Oman traditionally
provides its disaster relief through cash payments to the Red
Cross/Crescent or to applicable UN agencies. End note.) Embassy
Muscat has provided al Ra'isi with the contact information provided
by Task Force One. Embassy will report further details as they
become available.
