(C) While calling on the Chief of the MFA Secretary General's
Office, Ambassador Lyutha al Mughairi on February 24, Ambassador
Schmierer used the opportunity deliver the subject demarche about
U.S. policy on the Tehran research reactor. The Ambassador
confirmed U.S. support for the legitimate medical needs of the
Iranian people, but stressed U.S. concerns regarding Iran's
approach to this issue, as outlined in the non-paper; a copy of the
non-paper was then delivered (reftel). Al Mughairi replied that
Oman is of a like mind and wishes to cooperate with the United
States. She promised to deliver the demarche to Secretary General
Sayyid Badr as well as to the Omani IAEA representation.
