Cateriano, Acting Director General for North American Affairs at
the MFA, on January 4. Ruiz said the request for Santiago Alvarez
Fernandez Magrina's resettlement in Peru was "a little difficult,"
and unlikely to be approved, due to Alvarez' extensive criminal
background and controversial past. Later, after consulting with
MFA colleagues, Ruiz called to inform poloff that the GOP had
declined the request.
