1. (SBU) DCM conveyed points in reftel demarche Feb. 10 to
Anthony Livuza, MFA Principal Secretary and Paul Chiunguzeni, MFA
Director of Political Affairs. Both appeared well briefed on the
issues.
2. (C) Livuza replied that he understood that the USG had
made considerable efforts to reach out to the Iranian regime
concerning its nuclear program, in cooperation with other members
of the international community. He agreed that Iran had failed to
take advantage of these opportunities. Livuza indicated that the
GOM would support additional measures to apply pressure on Iran to
comply with its IAEA obligations. "We will support anything that
will restore sanity to this situation," he concluded.
