The Ambassador delivered reftel demarche on assistance for Haiti to
Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa on January 21 (ref. A). Kutesa said
the High Commission of Trinidad and Tobago and the Ugandan
government will launch, in conjunction with local businesses, a
fundraising drive on January 25 for Haitian humanitarian
assistance. Kutesa provided no indication of the Ugandan
government's potential contribution. Local media coverage of the
Haitian earthquake and relief efforts remains factual and
appreciative of the U.S. response to Haiti's needs.
