SUBJECT: GUATEMALA RESPONSE FOR COUNTRY SPECIFIC ALLOCATIONS 2010
U.S. RAW CANE SUGAR TARIFF-RATE QUOTA
REF: STATE 12843
Guatemala was assigned a raw sugar tariff rate quota (TRQ) of
50,546 MT for FY 2010. As of February 12, 2010, Guatemala had
already exported 43,060 MT to the U.S and is expected to fulfill
its TRQ in March 2010, exporting the pending 5,368 MT (to reach
48,446 MT given the TRQ adjustment based on the high polarity of
Guatemalan sugar). Guatemala has an immediate availability to
export an additional 300,000 MT of raw sugar to the U.S. The
Association of Sugar Producers (ASAZGUA) has requested that the
U.S. Government confirm as soon as possible the extra volume of
sugar that Guatemala can export to the U.S. since contracts need to
be signed by March. By the end of March, the total available
volume will start decreasing given the strong world demand. If you
need extra information, Mario Yarzebski, Exports Manager for
ASAZGUA will gladly provide it. Mario YarzebskiC,B4s direct contact
information is: myarzebski@azucar.com.gt, Cel. (502) 5826-9844.
