Chaudhry for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d) ¶1. (C) Ambassador Chaudhry delivered reftel demarche to Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca on February 2. Foreign Minister Leanca promised to tell the Prime Minister to send clear instructions to the Moldovan Customs Service that controls/sanctions on Iran be properly implemented and strictly enforced. The FM also assured the Ambassador that Moldova, in cooperation with the USG, would ensure that its counter-proliferation efforts were as effective as possible. ¶2. (C) FM Leanca also said that the GOM was watching Iran-related developments closely and with great concern. Noting the olive branch that President Obama had extended to Iran after taking office, Leanca said that Iran's response had not been appropriate. Instead of seeing more cooperation from Iran in the last several months, there had been an escalation in hostilities on Tehran's part. CHAUDHRY
