1. (S) The Australian government has agreed to cosponsor our
request to list Yemen-based al-Qa'ida in the Arabian
Peninsula (AQAP) and its two leaders, Nasir al-Wahishi and
Ali al-Shihri, under UNSCR 1267. Sanctions and Transnational
Crime Section Director Peter Scott of the Department of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) informed us of the decision
this afternoon and apologized for the delayed response. As a
next step, DFAT will send a cable to the Australian U.N.
mission in New York instructing them to coordinate with USUN.
