1. (U) According to MFA officials, Slovakia has pledged the
following humanitarian assistance to Haiti:
- 50,000 euros in financial aid
- 18-person medical team
- 44-bed field hospital
- an unspecified amount of tents, sleeping bags, blankets,
clothes, etc.
The physical aid is en route to Paris and should arrive in Haiti
on Thursday, January 21, with the assistance of the French
government. The timing for transfer of financial aid is
uncertain. We passed along information about the Financial
Tracking System (FTS) of the UN Office for the Coordination of
Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA),and our MFA interlocutor told us
that the Slovak government would be sure to register its
assistance.
2. (U) At this point, no logistical assistance from the USG is
necessary or requested.
