(S) Ministry of Foreign Affairs Coordinator of Support and Deputy Director of International Organizations, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Humaimidi confirmed to EmbOff February 10 that the GOI still plans to co-sponsor a 1267 Committee resolution against Muthanna Harith Al-Dari and noted that the Iraqi Delegation to the United Nations had already been working with USUN on the issue. ¶3. (S) Drawing on reftel A points, Post informed Al-Humaimidi that the United States would not be seeking a resolution against Sa'ad Uwayyid 'Ubayd Mu'jil Al-Shammari (AKA Abu Kalif) because of his recent death in Mosul. Al-Humaimidi requested official written confirmation that we are dropping our resolution against Al Shammari so that he can officially inform the Minister of Foreign Affairs. ¶4. (S) This is an action request. Reftel demarche contained no releasable point that confirmed the United States was dropping the resolution against Al-Shammari. Post requests Department send to Embassy Baghdad and USUN written releasable confirmation of our intention to drop that resolution because of Al-Shammari's death. We then could pass the confirmation on to Al-Humaimidi and the Iraqi Delegation to the United Nations. HILL
