(C) On February 10 we delivered REFTEL points to MFA
Department Head for Human Rights Yonca Ozceri. Ozceri said
the MFA is following the competition for a seat on the Human
Rights Council and has not finalized its decision on which
candidates Turkey will or will not support. However, she
said she understood our position and would take note of this
for use in further MFA discussions on candidates. Regarding
general human rights violations by the Iranian government,
Ozceri said the issue remains important for the MFA, so it is
closely following these developments in Iran, but that as a
neighboring country Turkey must exercise more caution so as
not to provoke possibly excessive Iranian reactions.
