SUBJECT: CROATIA SUPPORTS U.S. POSTURE ON IRAN'S NUCLEAR
PROGRAM
REF: SECSTATE 120288
Classified By: Peter D'Amico, Pol Officer, for reasons 1.4 (b) & (d).
(C) POLOFF delivered reftel points to MFA Desk Officer for
Iran, Tomislav Peric, on November 25. Peric noted that when
Foreign Minister Jandrokovic had a farewell meeting with the
outgoing Iranian Ambassador to Croatia on November 18, the FM
had called on the Iranians to be more flexible in their
approach to the international community regarding Iran's
nuclear program. The Iranian Ambassador replied that the GoI
did not have confidence in France fulfilling its commitments
under the IAEA's proposal for refueling the Tehran Research
Reactor (TRR). Peric said, however, that the United States
and its partners had made a serious effort to address Iran's
concerns regarding the TRR proposal. Peric stated that
Croatia would continue to support the U.S. and EU position on
Iran's nuclear program and that Zagreb's stand on this issue
was also clear to the GoI.
