PROTOCOL
In a vote called on the morning of March 25, the Croatian
parliament (Sabor) approved Croatia's NATO Accession
Protocol. The vote was 119-1 in favor of Croatia joining the
Alliance. In the debate prior to the vote the main
opposition party stated it believed that a two-thirds vote in
the Sabor was required to pass the draft, while the ruling
coalition stated that only a simple majority vote was
necessary. In the end, despite the brief debate, all the
parties voted to pass the protocol. The protocol will now
move to President Mesic's office for his signature, which is
expected to follow shortly. Post is scheduled to meet with
the MFA tomorrow morning to discuss next steps, details to
follow by septel.
