CANDIDIATE FOR UNDP BOARD

(SBU) Poloff delivered reftel demarche on January 8, to Vesna
Vukovic, head of the MFA's UN office regarding the Iranian
candidate for the President of the UNDP Executive Board. She
indicated that the Croatian Foreign Ministry would review our
position and Post will report any substantive response in a
septel. The Acting POL Chief also spoke with Ambassador
Mario Nobilo, Director for Multilateral Affairs, the same day
regarding this issue, and he said he understood the U.S.
concerns about Iran becoming President of the UNDP Executive
Board.
