1. (C) Ewa Kinast, Deputy Director of the MFA's Americas
Department, appreciated reftel clarification of the
U.S.-Colombia Defense Cooperation Agreement, but otherwise
had no comment.
2. (C) In general, Kinast said Warsaw was impressed with the
"evident" progress that Colombia had made under President
Uribe. The country is significantly more stable, which
should attract more interest among prospective Polish
investors. Kinast said Poland would like to increase trade
between the two countries, as well as with other countries in
Latin America, but the security situation until recently had
deterred Poles. She added that Poland had previously
extended an invitation to Uribe to visit Warsaw, which she
hoped could be arranged within the next month or so. The
main purpose of such a visit would be promotion of bilateral
trade and investment opportunities.
