UNCLAS VILNIUS 000608 SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PGOV PREL KMDR LH SUBJECT: PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE SETS SCHEDULE FOR MEETINGS ON ALLEGED CIA PRISON REF: VILNIUS 592 ¶1. The National Security and Defense Committee of the Lithuanian Seimas (parliament) has decided to meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to conduct its investigation into the alleged existence in Lithuania several years ago of a CIA prison for terrorist suspects. The committee has not finalized its agenda yet, but does have rules saying that the committee will decide before each meeting whether to admit the public or not. A committee staffer told us that he expected all meetings to be closed. ¶2. Media reported that on November 13 the committee talked to military intelligence officers. Committee chairman Arvydas Anusauskas did not tell reporters which officers had been interviewed or what they had said or been asked. ¶3. On November 11, media reported, committee members visited the State Security Department base near Vilnius that had been identified by media as a possible site of the alleged prison. The committee's vice chairman, Vytautas Bogusis, declined to tell reporters the purpose of the visit. DERSE
