(C) On August 21, we shared reftel points on Middle East
issues at the upcoming International Atomic Energy Agency
(IAEA) General Conference (GC) with Arturas Vazbys, the
Lithuanian MFA's Acting Head of the Arms Control and
Terrorism Prevention Division. He said the GOL shared the
EU's concerns about the Syrian and Iranian nuclear programs,
and that a less contentious GC would allow the IAEA to focus
on them. As to ideas for a single resolution that could be a
basis for consensus, Vazbys said he had no immediate thoughts
on the matter, but promised to consult with colleagues. We
will report any forthcoming information.
