1. (C) Post delivered reftel points January 13 to MFA
Counselor of the Middle East and Africa Division Rosita
Soryte. She said the potential EU-Syria agreement is being
driven by the European Commission but she has not seen any
information about how and when the Commission plans to raise
it with member states. Soryte said the GOL has not yet taken
a position on this agreement but promised to consult with us
before doing so.
2. (C) We will also raise this issue at the under secretary
level in the coming days to ensure the new leadership at the
MFA understands how seriously we take potential EU-Syria
engagement.
