1. Per reftel request, on June 3 econoff met with the MFA's
UN Division Director Viengsavanh Sipraseuth. Ms. Viengsavanh
indicated that she would be in touch with the Lao UN mission
to discuss the election and that the Government of Laos was
interested in supporting its friends and partners. Although
unable to commit the GOL to vote for the U.S. candidate
without internal discussion, Ms. Viengsavanh is willing to
discuss the Lao vote closer to the actual election in October
or November.
