Poloff presented referenced demarche to Ms. Viengsavanh
Sipraseuth, Director of the UN Political and Security
Division of the Foreign Ministry. Ms. Viengsavanh asked for
which term the United States is interested in membership
since Norway, Belgium, and New Zealand are already announced
as the group nominees for the current term. She also noted
that the Lao UN Mission had not yet reported from New York
that the U.S. Mission had approached them about U.S.
membership. After discussion, Ms. Viengsavanh said she would
pass the demarche information to her Director General for
consideration.
