Poloff presented reftel to Georg Diwald, MFA Deputy Director
for International Organizations, on February 24 and followed
up on February 27. Diwald told Poloff Austria was inclined
to support a U.S. candidate, though they were disappointed
the other candidate had withdrawn. However, Diwald felt that
a U.S. representation on the Appeals Tribunal was important,
and said he would consult with Austria's UN delegation on the
vote.
