¶1. (U) Post delivered reftel demarche to representatives of
Austria's Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water
Management; Health Ministry; and Ministry for Economic Affairs.
¶2. (U) Dr. Michel Haas (of Austria's Health Ministry) told FAS
representative that Austria will vote against the approval of
biotech corn varieties on October 19, since Austrian expert opinions
differ from EFSA on issues of risk assessment, detection methods,
and toxicology.
