Polchief met September 10 with Klaus Famira, MFA European
Correspondent, to discuss the upcoming GAERC. Famira offered
the following views:
-- Georgia: GAERC participants are not expected to make any
concrete decisions regarding the updating of the Partnership
and Cooperation Agreement with Georgia. There will instead
be a more general discussion about how to advance the
relationship with the eventual goal of reaching an
Association Agreement.
-- Eastern Partnership: GAERC participants will discuss
strategies for expanding trade and energy cooperation,
liberalizing visa regulations, and establishing free trade
zones with the Partnership nations.
-- Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka has been withdrawn from the agenda.
