1. In a June 8 meeting with Tonio Borg, Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Charge' delivered reftel
demarche on Pakistan's diplaced persons, emphasizing that we
hoped that, in addition to being supportive of broader EU
efforts, we hoped Malta itself would be able to contribute as
an individual EU member state.
2. Borg expressed satisfaction that Pakistan was acting
against the extremists, and agreed that it was vital to
address the humanitarian crisis, but was non-committal
regarding a possible contribution by Malta.
