1. (U) On February 4, Deputy Permanent Representative
Alejandro Wolff spoke to U.N. Under Secretary General
Patricia O'Brien in support of the candidacy of Justice
Shireen Fisher for the judicial vacancy in the Appeals
Chamber of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, drawing from
the points in Ref A.


2. (U) O'Brien stated that she and the other members of the
UN's selection panel will consider Justice Fisher, one other
woman, and one man, all of whom have strong credentials.
O'Brien said that Justice Fisher's background was
particularly impressive. The panel will interview the
candidates on February 5 and will make a recommendation to
the Secretary General.
