USUN has emailed to Department (IO/MPR-Lisa Spratt and EUR-IO/EX/FM-Alice Green) a copy of a note from the Secretary-General, dated December 30, 2008 requesting payment of the U.S. assessed contribution to the UN Capital Master Plan (CMP) for 2009 in the amount of $75,534,800. The note also refers to outstanding payments in the amount of $75,534,800 with respect to the CMP for prior years. Text of note is as follows: ¶2. Begin Text: The Secretary General of the United Nations presents his compliments to the Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations and has the honour to refer to General Assembly resolutions 61/251 of 22 December 2006 and 62/87 of 10 December 2007, concerning the financing of the capital master plan. By its resolution 62/87, the General Assembly reaffirmed the mixed one-time and multi-year assessment option based on the regular budget scale of assessments applicable for 2007, as stipulated in paragraphs 14 to 20 of its resolution 61/251, and decided that there would be no change in the payment schedule for Member States' contributions to the capital master plan. In accordance with the provisions of General Assembly resolutions 61/251 and 62/87, an amount of $75,534,800 is payable by His Excellency's Government for the capital master plan for the year 2009 under the multi-year payment plan. In this connection, the Secretary General wishes to bring to the attention of His Excellency that the United Nations records show that as at 30 December 2008, an amount of $75,534,800 for the capital master plan for prior years remains payable by His Excellency's Government. As indicated in paragraph 16 of General Assembly resolution 61/251, notwithstanding financial regulation 3.4, assessments for the capital master plan shall be considered due and payable in full within one hundred and twenty days of the date on which the assessment notices were issued, i.e., 29 April 2009.
