(U) Post requests two interns for the Fall 2009 cycle: one each for the Political Section and the Public Affairs Section. The political intern will support the work of the section, including preparation of briefing papers and support of NATO committee work. The intern will focus her work under supervision of an FSO in one or two areas, such as Afghanistan, Russia, or NATO enlargement. Foreign language abilities are not a prerequite, but a basic knowledge of French would be helpful. The intern assigned to the Public Affairs Section will participate in a range of public diplomacy activities. Some background in journalism and European Security policy is useful, but a positive attitude and an interest in Public Affairs is sufficient. Good computer and internet research skills are a plus. The intern will have a chance to prepare media briefings and analysis, develop content for the mission website, assist with press conferences and other media events, and participate in outreach programs for foreign officials and opinion leaders. ¶2.
