LEAD STORIES: Front-page items on Tuesday morning included a Yomiuri report saying that Toyota Motor's domestic production in fiscal 2009 is likely to plunge below the 3 million mark for the first time in 31 years, falling to about 2.8 million units. ¶2. "Let's Put an End to 'Cold War'" The liberal Asahi editorialized (4/21): "... There was a series of moves to openly check the U.S., such as the Russian Navy's joint drills last year with the Venezuelan Navy in the Caribbean Sea. Such strain appears to have eased significantly since President Obama, who adopts a line of dialogue, took office... Venezuelan President Chavez expressed his position to seek dialogue. This can be considered an achievement of Obama diplomacy. .. Though absent, Cuba was the key player at the summit of the Organization of American States... Half a century has passed since the Cuban Revolution. Momentum to put an end to an 'unproductive cold war' between the two nations (of the U.S. and Cuba) has finally emerged. " ZUMWALT
