(U) MOFA announced April 7 that Japan will extend $5 million
in grant aid to support internally displaced persons in
Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas and North West
Frontier Province. The assistance will be channeled through
the United Nations World Food Program ($2 million for
emergency food aid),the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees ($1.5 million for blankets, sleeping mats, soap),
and the International Committee of the Red Cross ($1.5
million for daily commodities and food). This assistance is
being granted in response to appeals for emergency
humanitarian assistance made by the United Nations and ICRC
in January, 2009.
