1. LEAD STORIES: Several Monday morning dailies gave
top coverage to the results of their respective opinion
surveys all pointing to mounting calls for DPJ
President Ozawa to resign to take responsibility for
the arrest of his top assistant on suspicion of
accepting illegal corporate donations.

2. "Iran Positive about U.S. Overtures" On the U.S.
proposal to invite Iran to a conference on Afghanistan,
the liberal Mainichi's Tehran correspondent wrote
(3/9): "Iran has expressed its positive stance on the
recent U.S. invitation that it takes part in an
international conference on Afghanistan. Given that a
stable Afghanistan would serve its national interest,
Tehran is likely to send its representatives. By taking
a concerted approach with Washington in order to attain
a 'common interest' in stabilizing Afghanistan, Iran is
also hopeful that the participation would help repair
its damaged ties with the U.S."
