MOFA UN Planning Division Deputy Director Yoko Tsuda. Tsuda
remarked that her division had "carefully followed"
Ambassador Rice's speech at New York University and had
translated it into Japanese. She stated that the Obama
administration's UNGA goals and objectives appeared to be
ones the Government of Japan would largely support,
"particularly the Human Security approach that we have long
favored." "But," she added, "we are in confusion here right
now, and it is difficult for us to work, because no one seems
to know what the new policies of the DPJ (Democratic Party of
Japan) will be. For that reason I really can't tell you what
our own goals and objectives for the UNGA will be. We
ourselves don't know."
