1. LEAD STORIES: Lead stories on Wednesday morning included
Tuesday's passage of a nonbinding censure motion against Prime
Minister Aso by the House of Councillors, as well as the rejection
by the House of Representatives of a no-confidence motion against
the prime minister.
2. "China Concerned about Its Response to Uighur Unrest Becoming
Diplomatic Issue" The business-oriented Nikkei wrote from Beijing
(7/15): "The Chinese government is worried that its response to the
unrest in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region is developing into a
diplomatic issue. A possible spread of anti-Chinese sentiment in the
Islamic world, including Turkey, would harm Chinese enterprises'
operations abroad, and President Hu's diplomatic policy of promoting
international coordination might also be affected. There is also a
growing possibility that rising opposition to Turkey and xenophobic
nationalistic sentiment will be unleashed [in China]."
