Emboff delivered reftel demarche July 6 relaying U.S.
concerns regarding the July 8-9 ITSO extraordinary meeting in
Rome. Emboff spoke to Ministry of Internal Affairs and
Communications (MIC) Director for International Economic
Affairs Eiji Makiguchi, communicating points as also
delivered June 29 to visiting Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry (METI) Senior Director for Policy Coordination
Katsuhiko Kaji in Washington. Makiguchi told emboff July 7
that MIC officials understand U.S. concerns, and Japanese
delegates to the Rome meeting will support the U.S. position
concerning the ITSO Director General's request to seek
binding arbitration against the U.S. and U.K. governments.
