1. (SBU) Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) International
Nuclear Energy Cooperation Division Deputy Director Zentaro
Naganuma, during a April 28 meeting with Econoff on other
issues (septel),expressed interest in the status of the
U.S.-UAE bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement. He
explained MOFA is very interested in the agreement's
provisions related to a commitment by the UAE not to conduct
enrichment and reprocessing, and said MOFA hopes to use the
provisions to develop Japan's own agreement with the UAE. He
therefore requested a copy of the agreement and the agreed
minutes.
2. (SBU) Action request: Post would appreciate a copy of
the U.S.-UAE agreement and the minutes that could be passed
to MOFA. End action request.
