(C) On October 26, PolOffs delivered reftel information to
Saimir Repishti, Director of the UN Department at the MFA.
Generally, Repishti said that U.S. goals for the Third
Committee are in line with Albania's. Repishti said that
Albania supports the resolutions on Iran, Burma, and the
DPRK. He added that Albania also does not support no-action
motions. On the Defamation of Religions resolution, Repishti
stated that as a member of the Organization of the Islamic
Conference (OIC),Albania will try to leverage its influence
to make a statement to the OIC that it is not necessary to
present this resolution every year in multiple fora. He
further said that Albania would abstain from voting on this
resolution and would not sign on to any OIC declarations on
this issue. Repishti also told PolOffs that Albania strongly
supports the resolution for the Elimination of Discrimination
Against Women. Finally, he said that Albania may be
interested in co-sponsoring the resolution on elections.
