1. (C) SUMMARY: The Dutch do not expect to announce new
"deliverables" on Afghanistan and Pakistan during the
upcoming NATO and EU summits. END SUMMARY.
2. (C) Poloff shared reftel A points with key contacts at the
Dutch MFA, MOD, and PM's office. Maarten Boef, head of the
Dutch MFA Uruzgan Task Force, advised EMBASSY on March 26
that the Dutch do not expect to announce new deliverables at
the NATO and EU summits. The most recent new GONL commitment
in Afghanistan is the deployment of 76 special forces
soldiers, reported by FM Verhagen in a letter to parliament
on March 13.
3. (C) Dutch plans to assist Pakistan are reported in reftel
B. Briefly, the Dutch still have not settled on a final
amount or on a date for a public announcement of Pakistan
aid, but intend to direct as much as 112 million euros over
three years for development and governance programs.
