(C) PolCouns conveyed reftel demarche May 22 to MFA Director
General Gal's Chief of Staff Alon Ushpiz and to National
Security Advisor Arad's Chief of Staff Limor Ben-Har.
PolCouns stressed the importance of Israeli steps to support
the U.S. goal of strengthening the PA's role in Gaza at the
expense of Hamas, including improved movement of goods and
services. Ushpiz said the MFA fully supports the U.S.
approach and expressed some frustration with the MOD's
restrictive position on Gaza movement and access. Ben-Har
also expressed appreciation for the points and said the NSC
will give them full consideration in advance of a May 24
meeting, which she thought would not include the full cabinet
but a smaller group.
