Poloff delivered reftel demarche on supporting the United
States candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council to Director
of Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Jose Lorenzana, on April 2. Lorenzana stated that this was
big change from the past administration which chose to not
participate in the previous Council. POLOFF relayed
President Barack Obama's intention to create "a new era of
engagement" with the world which Lorenzana welcomed.
Lorenzana requested an official notice of the U.S. candidacy,
which we will deliver. Post will follow-up and report any
response.
