(SBU) Responding to reftel request for information on
Georgian attendance at the 64th UNGA, the Georgians have
informed us that the President and Foreign Minister plan to
attend. Further details will be provided when they are
available.
Per reftel:
A. Attendance of the Head of State:
Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia
Arrival and departure dates: Not yet available. MFA reported
that, according to the provisional list of speakers,
Saakashvili will address the UNGA on September 24.
Spousal attendance: It is not yet determined whether First
Lady Sandra Roelofs will attend.
Interpretation is not required for either the President or
the First Lady.
B. Attendance of Head of Government:
Prime Minister Nika Gilauri does not currently plan to attend.
Spouse attendance: Gilauri is not married.
If the Prime Minister attends, interpretation will not be
required.
C. Attendance of the Foreign Minister:
Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze will attend.
Arrival and departure dates: TBD.
Spouse attendance: TBD.
Interpretation is not required for the FM or his wife.
D. Attendance of other VIPs: National Security Secretary Eka
Tkeshelashvili often accompanies the President and may be a
part of the delegation.
